Keyword Search: This type of search looks for any word or words in titles, subject headings, summaries, and other parts of the description of an item. It is the most inclusive type of search, but not always the most accurate. Doing a Subject Search may give better results.

To improve your searches...
Multiple Words and Phrase Searching To find items that have all the words (whether they're together in an exact phrase or not), enter multiple words without quotation marks:

stock market

To search for an exact phrase, use quotation marks:

"stock market"

Boolean Operators Use "and" or "or" to specify multiple words in any field, any order. Use "and not" to exclude words. Use parentheses to group words.

(stock market) and russia
(alaska or canada) and adventure
columbus and not christopher

Truncation
(word roots)
Words may be right-hand truncated using an asterisk. Use * to truncate 1-5 characters only.
Use ** to truncate 6 or more characters.

environment* polic* -- would find phrases such as environment policy, environmental policy, environmental policies, etc.

digital photo** -- would find phrases such as digital photo, digital photos, digital photography, etc.

Proximity Use "near" to specify words within 10 words of each other, in any order.
Use "within n" to specify words within "n" words of each other. The value of "n" has no limit.

Field Searches Use abbreviations to specify fields to search:
